How To Choose A Safety Padlock

Lockout Tagout Procedure

Lockout Tagout is a planned safety procedure that disables the energy supply of industrial machinery and equipment whilst servicing, maintenance work or repairs are in progress. The aim of this system is to effectively protect workers from the dangers created by live machinery or electricity, therefore lowering the overall level of risk when working with this equipment.

The standard procedure for implementing Lockout Tagout is laid out below. All steps should be carried out either by a single authorised employee or the employer, and company regulations must be followed at all times when implementing the Lockout Tagout procedure.

Step 1: Preparation

Prepare for a shut down of energy source. Identify the type of energy used (e.g. electrical) and the potential risks, considering the type and magnitude of the energy and how it can be controlled. (See more...)

First corporate manslaughter conviction: Act. Protect. Comply.

The Gloucestershire-based company, Cotswold Geotechnical Holdings Ltd, has been convicted of corporate manslaughter in the first trial to test the new Corporate Manslaughter Act and to successfully convict a company without the need to also prosecute the company director, Mr Eaton.

The company was sentenced on Thursday 17 February, and has been fined Â£385,000 payable over 10 years.

In his sentencing remarks Mr Justice Field who heard the case, commented that he was aware a fine of this size was likely to put the company into liquidation but that the fine he imposed must be fit for the level of gravity of the offence and send a clear message to the industry.

A few Days a Circuit breaker Lockout/tagout saved my life whie changing a defective breaker.

I had locked out the floor's main circuit and the man from the other flat tried to re-activate the main which was impossible against the lockout. If I hadn't locked that out i would have been killed due to electrocution
